During my recent visit to Tunisia, I had an unforgettable
moment when a wonderful Tunisian band performed my
favorite song during the commemoration of one of the Tunisian
martyrs who supported Palestine. That moment deeply inspired
me and stirred emotions I can’t quite describe.

As I listened to the lyrics, which encapsulated all the meanings
of sacrifice and struggle, I decided to translate these feelings
into a mural in the heart of the Tunisian capital, titled “I Chose
You, My Homeland.” This work became an expression of my
deep belonging to Palestine, and to the shared principle that
unites us as Arabs, whether in Tunisia or anywhere else: that we
choose our homeland, no matter the challenges.

Tunisia, which shares Palestine’s concerns and embodies the
same spirit, was the perfect place for this work. The Tunisian
national songs, played to the rhythm of hope and resilience,
inspired me at every corner of the mural. I chose Arabic
calligraphy as the medium to express our ongoing
commitment to our homeland, and used colors that reflected
feelings of hope and sacrifice

Ultimately, through this work, I wanted to convey that the
homeland is not just a place we live in, but a feeling that resides
within us wherever we go, remaining alive in every step we take,
no matter how far we may be from its soil.
